      Welcome back to my blog! This week was a good week, I got to speak with some of the volunteers about why they work there and there goals. I had some troubles remembering some of the names, but there is one man that works there and I decided to talk with him. He told me the reason he started volunteering was because he was out of a job and Martie asked for some help there. Martie is the one in charge, as I mentioned in my last blog. She has more of a reason for being there. She used to be a cook and wanted to help people so she decided to take the Soup Kitchen on. By being around her I can really tell she is dedicated to her job and genuinely cares for her volunteers and customers.      When it comes to cooking the meals, I thought they didn't care exactly how the food was or the type of food but then I could see they plan each of there meals out and work so hard on planning the meals.        Welcome back to my blog! This week was a slow week for the soup kitchen. I knew that this was going to be a busier week for me, which is why I volunteered last Friday. When I first got there, I actually went to the wrong church then soon realized I needed to go to the other one. After I got there, they had me sign a few papers agreeing to there rules and safety measures. Then, Martie, who is charge of the soup kitchen gave me a overrun of what to do. She showed me how to serve the food and where everything was. When volunteering, I have to wear a face mask, hair net or hat, and last a apron.     My first fay was very boring in my opinion. We didn't have any people until around12:15, then three people came in. We also give them the main course, side, dessert, water and a drink of there choice. They are very nice people and you can really tell that they take there job seriously. Martie said they normally get 0-20 people a  day. The tough thing is,...

This week was the first week I get to go to the soup kitchen. With it being a busy week I'm not able to go there until Friday but I decided to think about my expectations going in. I've volunteered for the soup kitchen in the years past and really enjoyed it. When you get there you first sign in, then you go back to prep/dishes room to wash your hands. Then they provide you with a hat and apron, then they give you a job. Sometimes you are washing vegetables, filling drinks, or washing dishes. I'm curious to see how this is going to play out with COVID-19 and there new location. My experience then was different then rather then now because back then I wanted to volunteer for the hours but now I want to find a deeper meaning behind the soup kitchen. I expect everything to be the same with some new COVID-19 guidelines added. Next week I will share my experience at the soup kitchen and if it's what I expected.
