2.7 Soup Kitchen

Welcome back to my blog! This week my goal was to reflect on how the soup kitchen has changed my life. To be honest, I was expecting to feel more or have a different reaction. In reality, I feel good about what I'm doing but nothing crazy. Volunteering is really fun and I enjoy doing it but it didn't give me the feeling I thought I would. Volunteering has been great and I love getting to work with Martie, but I haven't gotten any close connections with any of the customers. Some projects or volunteer work, I can make connections or bonds with the customers or patients and this time I didn't. Before I started volunteering again, I volunteered pre covid and we did have more people come but recently there haven't been many people which could be due to the days I go. Overall I'm still very happy with what I've been doing and have come far. I've been more motivated to going to the soup kitchen, and at the beginning of each week, I sit and plan out what I nee...

Soup Kitchen 2.6

Welcome back to my blog! If I'm being completely honest I'm having a tough time with writing the blog itself. Every time I go to the soup kitchen it is the same thing. For me it feels like working a job, now I don't hate going there at all I really enjoy it, but it makes it hard to write about. During the last few weeks, I found out that Kiwanis has also been donating there time at the soup kitchen and same with the garden club. I've started feeling more comfortable there without feeling awkward. My first day I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure how it would work. Now, understand what to do and the tasks to do. That has been pretty much it over the last week which is hard.      Over the last two weeks,  I've been thinking of trying to go an extra day but it makes it really hard with having college classes. Time management is a key point with everything and I think its the biggest when it comes to volunteering. The main issue people h...

2.5 Soup Kitchen

Welcome back to my blog! The first thing I realized, is that it is tricky to write a blog about the soup kitchen. The process is pretty simple, and very repetitive but it's for a great cause. Each time I go there to volunteer, we do the same thing. We cook the food items depending on what it is, then we serve it to the handful of people that come. One thing I noticed is, I enjoy going there and helping but it can get boring. These people truly care about there jobs and helping others in communities. When volunteering, I  was able to notice, that the people who donate there time, normally are involved with some other type of organization. There are people from the church, the school, and other community organizations. These people truly have good hearts and care for others.     Going back to my action plan, its going really well. One week I got to the soup kitchen and actually serve the people and the other week I reflect. This genius hour ha...

Soup Kitchen 2.4

Welcome back to my blog! This week was another successful week but boring. I went to the soup kitchen last Tuesday, and it was very slow again unfortunately. They had a table laying out with different breads and goods for the people to take. Each week I really try to observe everyone and everything going on. It was only Martie and me at the soup kitchen, along with a volunteer of yours. When the missionaries are there, the shift goes by faster due to us having more people.      When first going into the soup kitchen, I honestly had high expectations. When it came to actually being there I was disappointed because hardly anyone comes. These volunteers put in a lot of time and energy to help people, but few take advantage of it, and the food goes to waste. I hope the next time I go there is more people, or a way of spreading the word. The soup kitchen used to be on the radio and if it isn't anymore, I might go have the radio st...
